Benteler intends to close 120 U.S. factory layoffs

According to foreign reports, German spare parts supplier Bentler plans to close its Opelika plant in Alabama, USA, and will abolish about 120 employees.

It is reported that the Opelika plant will continue to maintain production operations in the next five to six months, but Benteler will gradually transfer the plant's operations to factories in South Carolina and Mexico.

Benterer announced earlier this year that it will strategically adjust its global manufacturing operations and plan to close 4 to 5 factories worldwide. After an in-depth evaluation, the Opelika plant was confirmed as one of the company's plants in North America.

Otto Buschsieweke, Executive Vice President of North America, Benteler said: “We have conducted in-depth research on production operations in North America for several months, and the decisions we make today are critical to maintaining and strengthening our ability to provide long-term service to North American customers. This decision clearly has a disturbing impact among our colleagues at Opelika, and we are very sensitive to this and we promise to provide our employees with a reasonable plan in the coming weeks."

Bentler has a total of 74 factories in 29 countries around the world and currently has approximately 22,000 employees. The company's auto parts products include chassis and exhaust systems, structural products, engine parts and lightweight solutions.
