Low-temperature methanation of natural gas

The production of alternative natural gas using coke oven gas or coal gasification syngas has received widespread attention recently, and a number of foreign companies' coal-based methanation technologies have also made a high profile appearance in many media. Many experts believe that the energy conversion rate of coal-to-natural gas is higher than that of coal-made methanol, dimethyl ether, and coal-to-oil, and the water consumption is low. At present, Hangzhou Linda has provided technical solutions for coke oven gas or coal-based natural gas for a number of companies. The first commercial demonstration unit built using its low-temperature methanogenic natural gas technology is currently under design and equipment manufacturing.
Different from the high-temperature methanation natural gas technology adopted by foreign companies, Linda developed the technology of low-temperature methanation to make natural gas. Although the coal-to-natural gas process technologies introduced by foreign companies are not completely the same, they use multiple methanation reactors for adiabatic reactions, and then undergo an adiabatic reaction after intercooling. Because the reaction heat and adiabatic temperature rise for the methanation reaction is more than twice that of methanol synthesis, which is more than four times that of ammonia synthesis, the methanation catalyst of this high-temperature methanation process needs to withstand temperatures as high as 700°C. High demands are placed on the development of the catalyst. The current import methanation catalyst that can meet this requirement is up to 1 million yuan/cubic meter. In addition, even with the high-temperature methanation catalyst and multiple methanation reactors, the CO in coal-derived synthesis gas must be diluted from about 25% to about 2% to 4% with up to 5 times more recycle gas. Not only increased equipment investment, but also significantly increased the recycling gas consumption.
Linda company successfully developed the high-pressure methanol methanation invention patent technology such as synthetic ammonia plant more than ten years ago. This technology has been widely promoted and successfully applied in ammonia plants. Currently, the low-temperature methanation technology developed by Linda Co., Ltd. is an isothermal methanation synthesis technology that uses the by-product high-pressure steam to continuously remove the reaction heat while adopting the methanation reaction. The average temperature methanation reactor mathematical model developed by the researchers was used to design coke oven gas to make natural gas and coal to make various synthesis gas synthesis gas to make methanation reaction in the upper and lower temperature range of 360 °C.
Compared with foreign technologies, Linda's process has four advantages: First, it solves the problem of high-temperature deactivation of methanation catalysts, and can use domestically developed low-medium temperature methanation catalysts to significantly reduce catalyst costs and costs; A large amount of recycle gas is not used to dilute the CO in the synthesis gas, thus saving the cycle power consumption, increasing the amount of by-product steam and energy utilization. Third, it avoids the need to add water vapor to the catalyst in the coke oven gas or natural gas to reduce the activity. Energy consumption; four is to replace multiple methanation reactors and multiple heat recovery units with a single reactor, significantly reducing equipment and pipeline investment.
Linda cryogenic methanation reactor adopts horizontal water-cooled heat transfer, and the equipment has a cycle ratio of 200,000 tons/year methanol synthesis tower in Inner Mongolia Sutianhua Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., and the methanol content of the tower has increased more than twice as much as 12%. The methanation reactor adopts Linda's latest patented water-cooled synthesis technology and mathematical simulation calculations developed by Linda to meet the needs of coke oven gas or artificial gas-made natural gas methanation reaction, and can also use CO2 directly and H2 to synthesize natural gas, which is low Carbon economy contributes. At present, Linda is designing and manufacturing the first commercial demonstration unit for cryogenic methanation system SNG.
