Study the temperature and pressure limits of common valve packing

Valve packing materials are affected by the temperature and pressure of the fluid. Obviously, the filler material will become more fluid as the temperature rises. And easy to squeeze out of the stuffing box. High pressure can also cause extrusion. Therefore, the combination of high temperature and high pressure will greatly accelerate the extrusion. The following table provides a comparison of various packing materials and thermometers with standard-length bonnet and increased-length bonnet. The increased bonnet temperature limit is always higher because it is longer and the packing is placed far from the fluid temperature. Figure 2.43 through Figure 2.45 provide pressure and temperature limits for universal packing.
