Volvo releases inline five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine

Volvo has released a new 2.0-liter inline five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This engine will be equipped with the new generation S60 first, and then entered the power list of Volvo's entire series.

The new inline five-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine (codenamed D3) with the S80, V70, XC70 and XC60 has peak horsepower and torque output of 163 hp and 400 Nm, respectively, and consumes only 5.7 litres per 100 kilometers, emitting 147.7 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

The engine structure of the D3 is not much different from that of the 2.4-liter diesel engine code-named D5. By shortening the stroke, the displacement is reduced, and piezo injectors with higher pressures, more sensitive, and more precise pressures are added to improve power and fuel economy. At the same time, the turbocharger system is adjusted to produce a more abundant torque output at low speeds. The addition of D3 did not affect D5, and D5 will remain in the engine list with peak horsepower and torque output of 205 hp and 420 Nm, respectively.

In addition, the C30, S40, V50 and C70 will also be fitted with the new D3 diesel engine with peak horsepower and torque output of 150hp and 350Nm, respectively. In addition, Volvo will also provide a 177hp and 400Nm tuned version codenamed D4. Both engines have the same fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions specifications of 5.5 litres per 100 km and 144 g CO2 per km.

The new 2.0-liter inline five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is matched with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and various tuning versions can meet Euro 5 emission standards.
