Panasonic Develops "Halogen-Free Ultra Low Loss Transmission Base Material" for Millimeter-Band Antennas

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. Automotive Electronics and Mechatronics Co., Ltd. has developed a "halogen-free ultra low loss substrate material (Model: R-5515)" suitable for use in millimeter waveband antenna substrates [1], and plans to start in April 2019 Mass production. The use of thermosetting resins achieves the industry's highest (*1) low transmission loss [2] in the millimeter-wave range, contributing to higher efficiency of the antenna, lower loss, and lower substrate processing costs. In the context of the continuous development of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and automated driving, millimeter-wave radar is used as a sensing technology to support these systems [3]. For an antenna substrate that performs millimeter wave transmission and reception, it is required to have a low transmission loss. At present, a fluororesin substrate material [4] is mainly used as an antenna substrate material, but due to the characteristics of the resin, there is a problem in that it is difficult to process the substrate and the cost is high. This time, through our exclusive resin design technology and low-roughened copper foil bonding technology, we have realized a "halogen-free ultra-low transmission loss substrate material" that combines excellent low transmission loss and processability. 【feature】 1. Low transmission loss contributes to high efficiency and low loss of millimeter-band antennas Transmission loss: 0.079dB/mm (@79GHz) Our current product (※2): 0.081dB/mm, general-purpose fluororesin substrate material (※3): 0.096dB/mm (Our company measured value (※4)) 2. Excellent processability when manufacturing substrates, contributing to lower processing costs 3. It can be processed at the same time with general glass epoxy substrate material, and it contributes to the multilayer of antenna integrated module substrate. *1: As of January 11, 2018, as a thermosetting resin material used in the millimeter wave band, this material has the lowest transmission loss (this company survey) ※2: Our company's previous product (ultra-low transmission loss multilayer substrate material "MEGTRON7" R-5785) *3: General-purpose material used for antenna substrate material. *4: Measurement by microstrip line configuration [Usage] Substrates for millimeter-wavelength antennas (vehicle millimeter-wave radar, antenna substrate for wireless communication base stations, etc.), high-speed transmission substrates [Note] This product will be exhibited on the 19th printed circuit board EXPO held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Hall from January 17th to January 19th, 2018.
