China's high-quality DMF market gap, large consumer demand is still on the rise

According to statistics, the total consumption of dimethylformamide (DMF) in China from January to September 2005 was 265 thousand tons, an increase of 15% from the 230,000 tons in the same period in 2004. It is expected that the total consumption of DMF in China will reach 38 this year. Ten thousand tons. In 2006, the consumption of DMF in China is expected to continue to increase by 10% to 12% from 2005, reaching about 430,000 tons, and the consumption growth will basically come from the synthetic leather slurry industry. Experts believe that at present, China's DMF market is still in short supply, and it needs to rely on imports. In particular, the supply and demand gap in the high-quality DMF market is relatively large.
The major consumer market for DMF in the country is the production of synthetic leather slurries in the polyurethane industry. It is expected that in 2005 China's synthetic leather stocks will consume 240,000 tons of DMF, an increase of 40,000 tons from 2004, an increase of 18% over the same period of last year.
Because polyurethane artificial leather is superior to PVC artificial leather in performance, it has always dominated the artificial leather market. As the production capacity of synthetic leather in developed countries continues to shift to China, the demand for polyurethane synthetic leather will continue to increase. In 2004, the consumption of resin for synthetic leather in China was 530,000 tons, and it is expected to reach 720,000 tons in 2005, with an annual growth rate of 35%. In the next few years, China's polyurethane synthetic leather will still grow at a rate of 20%. Driven by it, China's DMF consumption growth in this area will not be lower than 10%.
DMF is mainly used in the pharmaceutical industry to produce synthetic antibiotics such as cephradine, ciprofloxacin, and norfloxacin. More than 20 drugs have also been used in anti-AIDS drugs in recent years. In 1998, the demand for DMF in the pharmaceutical industry in China was only 6,000 tons, and in 2003, the demand was 18,000 tons. It is expected that the demand in 2005 will be about 35,000 tons, accounting for about DMF consumption in China. 11%. With the rapid development of the pharmaceutical industry, the demand for DMF will also maintain rapid growth. It is expected that the average annual growth rate of demand during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period will remain around 11% to 15%.
In addition to the use of DMF in the dyeing industry in China, half of the DMF is exported to developed countries such as Europe and the United States. The use of DMF by the dyestuff industry is relatively large, but due to the seasonal influence, the market is prosperous in the season. The consumption of DMF in textile and textile-related textile auxiliaries accounted for about 9% of total consumption. In 1998, the demand for DMF in the dye industry in China was about 15,000 tons, 2.31 tons in 2001, and 25200 tons in 2003. The demand in 2005 is expected to be about 30,000 tons.
In the electronics industry, DMF can be used to produce sizing glue on copper clad insulation and for cleaning processes, accounting for 5% of total domestic consumption. In 1998, the consumption of DMF in the electronics industry was about 6,000 tons, and in 2004 it reached 17,000 tons. It is expected that the growth rate of DMF consumption in this area will be 8% in the future, and the demand in 2005 will reach 20,000 tons.
At present, butadiene extraction in ethylene production plants imported from China all use DMF technology, and its consumption of DMF is about 3,000 tons. It is estimated that in 2005 China's butadiene production capacity will reach 800,000 to 1 million tons, and it will consume 4,000 tons of DMF. DMF is used as a solvent in the dry spinning of polyacrylonitrile production. In 2004, about 28,000 tons of DMF was consumed in the production of polyacrylonitrile in China. It is expected that the DMF will consume DMF about 3.6 in 2005. Ten thousand tons.
In other areas, such as pesticides, plastics, coatings, and machinery industries, consumption of DMF was about 25,000 tons in 2004, and it is expected to reach 28,000 tons in 2005.
In summary, the demand for DMF in China is on the rise. However, in recent years, the production situation of DMF in China has been rather severe. On the one hand, due to the high cost of raw materials, the production cost has been continuously increased. Some domestic devices have no profit, and they are in the state of production suspension or semi-discontinuation; on the other hand, most of the domestic DMF The scale of the manufacturer is small, the technical equipment is backward, and the product quality is poor. The product cannot meet the requirements of domestic polyurethane synthetic leather and other aspects. Therefore, there is a large gap between supply and demand in the high-quality DMF product market in China.
