Taiwan will build a new marine scientific research ship for NT$1.6 billion

The Taiwan Marine Science Research Center held a press conference in Taipei on the 10th to announce the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the center. A new marine scientific research ship with a cost of NT$1.6 billion and a capacity of 2,700 tons has been completed. put up.

The new ship has a gross tonnage of more than 2,700 tons, less than 3,000 tons, a total length of about 72.6 meters, and a ship width of 15.4 meters. It has three main characteristics: First, strong resistance to waves, level seven Seahorse can be safely navigable. It can be studied during the prevailing northeast monsoon to compensate for the lack of marine data due to the northeast monsoon factor in the past winter. Second, low noise, suitable for resource exploration and underwater acoustics research. Third, the dynamic positioning device can make the ship It is convenient for the staff to carry out diving and core sampling, and the operation of underwater remote control tools can reach up to three kilometers.

Previously, there were three marine scientific research vessels in Taiwan, namely Haiyan No.1, which was launched in 1984, and Haiyan No.2 and Haiyan No.3, which were launched in 1995.

According to reports, after ten years of development, the Taiwan Marine Science Research Center has established eight special functional and interrelated laboratories, including the physical laboratory, chemical laboratory, marine database, and South China Sea time series experiment at Taipei Headquarters. Room, core laboratory of Keelung Division, satellite data receiving station, sediment laboratory of Kaohsiung branch, carbon chemistry laboratory.

In August 1997, the Taiwan Marine Science Research Center was established by integrating the Ocean Research Resources of Taiwan University, Sun Yat-Sen University and Ocean University by the “Executive Yuan” and “Science Committee”. Since January 1 this year, the center officially opened. Transferred to the Taiwan Experimental Research Institute, established as the entity's Taiwan Ocean Research Center.
