According to reports, Goodyear Tire will build a new R&D center in the United States, and plans to start operations in the second half of 2015. By then, it will focus on the development of tire manufacturing technology.
The plan was announced recently by real estate developer Southgate, and Goodyear Tire will be the developer's tenant. The R&D center will be located in a building in Hebron near Columbus. Construction of the building started in June 2012. The building area will be expanded from the current 50,000 square feet to 150,000 square feet in the future.
A Goodyear spokesperson said that after the new R&D center is fully operational, it will employ 30 technicians and focus on developing tire manufacturing technology. Currently, Goodyear Tire's R&D centers in Luxembourg and Germany are responsible for this business.
Currently Goodyear has not announced the investment cost for the new R&D center. The R&D center will absorb existing Goodyear technicians and will also employ new employees.
