ON Semiconductor's ingenuity in IoT and wireless medical technology is CES recognized

ON Semiconductor, a provider of energy-efficient innovations, was voted two of the CES 2017 Innovation Awards by the Consumer Technology Association of America (CTA). This was announced at CTA's Unveiled New York event of the year - the company's Ezairo 7150 SL audio processing hybrid module won the Tech for a Better World unit award, the Smart Passive SenorTM, referred to as SPS) program is also the same recognition of embedded technology class. The Ezairo 7150 SL and SPS scored high on all review criteria and is included in this year's list of the very best award-winning products.

These two awards once again highlight the breadth of ON Semiconductor's engineering expertise: one product innovation focused on improving the lives of hearing aid wearers with wireless technologies and the other for wireless sensor networks for the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Ezairo 7150 SL is an open, programmable and compact hybrid module based on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) that supports wireless intercommunication between hearing aids and cochlear implants. The precision hybrid module integrates an audio DSP, EEPROM memory, and a radio integrated circuit (IC) into a single miniature package that allows hearing aid manufacturers to incorporate advanced wireless features into their designs without affecting the overall system size. This gives the wearer the convenience (volume, program change) to control hearing aid features directly from a smartphone using a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) connection. The Ezairo 7150 SL features a 2.4 GHz proprietary protocol that also enables the wearer to stream audio from any media source, such as television and music systems, using a remote accessory. These features help to greatly enhance the user experience and improve the wearer's quality of life.

The SPS1M and SPS2T smart passive sensors eliminate the need for a microcontroller or battery at each sensing node (thus providing power, cost and space benefits). These ultra-thin devices work automatically to sense key parameters (temperature, humidity, pressure and distance) in an energy-efficient way and to support all power needs through energy harvesting. They provide a battery-less wireless network without the need for regular maintenance, reducing associated operating costs.

Bob Klosterboer, executive vice president and general manager of ON Semiconductor's Analog Solutions Division, said: "The upcoming CES show in Las Vegas, USA, is a hotbed of activity for the world in promoting the next generation of electronic products. It is undoubtedly extremely honored that both products were selected for the few award-winning products just prior to the show, which is proof of ON Semiconductor's engineering talent and our ongoing investment to deliver a superior solution for a connected world.
