Photovoltaic inverter market value exceeds 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2015

In 2010, the use of disruptive technologies in the photovoltaic inverter industry rose rapidly, and shipments of micro-inverters and power optimizers increased by more than 500%. However, they still account for less than 1% of total PV inverter revenue. Most of the shipments are concentrated in a small number of suppliers, such as Enphase and SolarEdge, which have achieved success in the micro-inverter and DC-DC power optimizer markets. Currently, there are active suppliers in the market. More than 20, and the market is expected to double at an annual rate, continuing until 2015.

IMS Research expects the value of the micro-inverter and power optimizer market to exceed US$1.3 billion by 2015. By that time, mass production can be achieved through OEM agreements, and the prices of these breakthrough technologies will be greatly reduced. However, by 2015, the average price of micro-inverters is expected to be 50% higher than that of conventional inverters, so the market penetration rate will be limited to about 6%.

Increasing supply and declining prices will drive the development of these two breakthrough technologies. Tom Haddon, photovoltaic market analyst at IMS Research, said: "Breakthrough technologies such as micro-inverters and power optimizers claim many advantages, including greater profitability, easier installation, and improved safety and monitoring. But At present, their prices are relatively high, and they are relatively immature in the market, which limits their development, especially for non-residential installation systems. In North America, the popularity of micro-inverters is developing very slowly because of the European The installer still prefers the string inverter."

Although the development of the new inverter market is still in its infancy, there are several factors that may promote or hinder its development. Some micro-inverters and power optimizer suppliers are currently actively negotiating with component suppliers to provide component integration solutions. It is estimated that by 2015, 45% of micro-inverters and 40% of power optimizers will be combined with components. TomHaddon said: "In cooperation with the component suppliers, micro inverter and power optimizer suppliers can get a large customer base and establish sales channels to provide customers with more favorable prices, but also to provide component suppliers with differences Products."
