Geely Design Vice President Hobri: Adding Chinese Elements to Geely Models

Peter Horbury, vice president of design for China Geely Holding Co., said recently that he plans to bring Local Styling design concepts to Geely Automobile and will add Chinese elements to Geely models.

Chinese elements: To merge with Geely at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6th, Douglas A. Bolduc, Editor-in-Chief of the European Automotive News, interacted with Hobbry. When questioning Douglas about the style and design of the future Geely model, Hobry expressed his intention to bring Chinese-inspired elements into the vehicle design and stressed that “only a pair of foreign eyes can perceive these design details because these elements are It's too ordinary for people."

Hobrey, who left Volvo's car design director in October last year, cited the old owner as an example, pointing out that Local Styling is making excellent use of Volvo's car design work. Due to the relatively dull appearance of Volvo models in the earlier years, Holbry has incorporated Scandinavian style in it, which has enabled it to obtain unique dynamic appearance elements, making the Volvo models reborn.

The models designed by Hobbery include: 1992 Volvo ECC, 1995 S40 and V40, 1997 C70 sports car, 2000 V70, 2001 S60, 2003 XC90 SUV, 2004 S40 and V50, and 2006 C70 , 2006 models V70, 2006 S80; in addition also supervised the 1998 Volvo 850 series of refurbished design, making it into the S70 and V70 series. The last model designed during this period was the 2006 C30.

Hofbri believes: "There must be similar elements in China." His goal is to find suitable Chinese elements, to integrate them with the design of Geely Automobile, and become the DNA of the Geely model.

Douglas Boldak also asked if Hofbry will be transferred from Sweden to China. However, Hobbrey said that he has not yet made a final decision. In the end, he is working in China for three weeks, returning to Sweden in two weeks, or moving his family to China, and hesitating.

Holbry’s Swedish wife has returned to full-time work in recent years. She has been successful in her local career and her daughter has reached the age of four.

Hobry quipped that moving to China will help his daughter's language learning. Now that her daughter can speak English and Swedish fluently, she will soon be able to master Chinese Mandarin. In the end Holbri simply jokingly said: "Then we may have to move to Barcelona again." Volvo Cars has a design center in the city. According to Hobley's joke, her daughter will learn Spanish, so that she can express herself fluently in the three most commonly used languages.
