·China Consumers Association: 40% of vehicles have airborne pollutants exceeding the standard

On the 11th, the China Consumers Association released a special investigation report on airborne volatile organic compounds in the car. The results show that with reference to the national standard “Guidelines for Air Quality Assessment in Passenger Vehicles”, 31 of the 51 test sample vehicles have test values below the standard limit of the standard, accounting for 60.8%; 20 vehicles are higher than the standard. Standard limit requirements, accounting for 39.2%.
According to China Consumers Association, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are general term for volatile organic compounds with melting points below room temperature and boiling points between 50 ° C and 260 ° C. They contain a variety of carcinogens known to be harmful to humans, such as: Benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, etc. At present, a large number of man-made materials are filled in ordinary passenger cars. If these materials contain and release VOCs, and the space inside the car is narrow and completely sealed, and the vehicle usually operates in an outdoor high temperature environment, it will be Become a high-risk area. It is understood that in recent years, the National Consumers Association has been receiving complaints about VOCs related to air inside the car.
The reporter saw that the results of this special survey showed that the risk of VOCs in new cars was generally higher than that of old cars. According to the “Guidelines for Air Quality Assessment in Passenger Cars”, most of the 20 vehicles with test results above the limit have a mileage of less than 10,000 km. The reason may be that the new car has not been fully ventilated and VOCs are volatilized. In addition, low temperature is beneficial to control the volatilization of VOCs; regular cleaning of air conditioners is beneficial to VOCs control; models are not directly related to the release of VOCs; the most harmful substances are formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, and aldehydes and ketones account for 61%.
In this regard, China Consumers Association reminded that good vehicle usage habits can reduce VOCs in the car. The Consumers Association recommends that consumers not fully drive, or even properly expose the sun, so that the VOCs in the material are fully released; during driving, maintain a suitable temperature, recommended to be less than 25 ° C; keep the car air conditioner clean; do not use inferior materials Interiors or counterfeit perfumes, reduce the use of detergents to clean leather goods, so as not to bring new sources of VOCs pollution; vehicle maintenance and repair, especially when using paint to use environmentally friendly materials, etc., to reduce the impact of VOCs on health.
China Consumers Association also suggested that the relevant state departments should change the recommended standards to mandatory standards, and clearly require automakers to identify the VOCs content when the new car is sold, and indicate whether it meets the national standards for consumers to purchase. Reference; it is recommended to establish a low-cost, operational test method to facilitate consumer rights protection.
