Cai Dong, President of CNHTC: Promoting Heavy Truck IV Standard Has "Flawless Injuries"

The delay of the heavy truck IV emission standards and the external attitudes of high-level heavy truck companies in recent days have actually highlighted the deep game behind the environmental protection standards and the energy giants.

"hard injury" is difficult to recover

“From the current point of view, the conditions for the promotion of heavy truck IV emission standards nationwide are not yet mature. Truck upgrading country IV through SCR aftertreatment is a mainstream technology route, but there are two 'hard injuries'. Cai Dong, President of CNOOC, said in an exclusive interview with SINA at the annual media meeting for the successful cooperation between CNHTC and Man Group. "One is that the current oil product is not closed, and the sulphur content is too high. Second, urea is required to meet the national IV emission standard through SCR technology. It is very difficult to solve the problem of adding urea in a short time nationwide."

Previously, in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the heavy truck IV standard should be implemented on January 1, 2010, but it was halted due to "immature conditions," and the so-called "immature conditions" mainly refer to the failure of China's oil products. .

When heavy truck emission standards were upgraded from State II to State III, reporters interviewed truck dealers from Guangdong, Zhejiang, Beijing and Shanxi Provinces. They had generally reported that heavy oil trucks failed to upgrade their trucks due to the lack of oil products. Temple, please don't come to Buddha," the truck's overall operating conditions have even been adversely affected.

Dr. Li Qin, Guangxi Yuchai's technical expert, admitted to the reporter that he was constrained by the bottleneck of oil products. When the State II upgraded country III, it showed many “discomforts” and upgrading the country IV would also encounter challenges.

Why is it difficult to improve oil?

When promoting Guoguo III oil products, PetroChina and Sinopec, two large-scale enterprise giants had stated that they can supply nationwide oil products nationwide before December 31, 2009, and many regions including Beijing have advanced 1-2 The year required the implementation of State III emission, showing an embarrassing situation where the "environmental protection standard" does not match the oil product guarantee.

In the face of such embarrassment, commercial vehicle companies have suffered as they have to meet emission standards and also have to adjust to the backwardness of domestic oil products. As a result, many companies have to develop products that meet the requirements at the same time. Some company officials have disclosed to reporters. “It is difficult to imagine that once three models of different emission standards were to be produced.” At the same time, this kind of embarrassment has also greatly increased the cost of R&D, production and sales of auto companies, and has caused the confusion of truck users when selecting products. .

China's fuel production has been using sulfur-additive additives, but international experience shows that this technology route cannot produce fuel equivalent to Euro III. For this reason, the petroleum and petrochemical system needs to add desulphurization equipment, and the investment will be between RMB 20 billion and 30 billion yuan, which will take 2-3 years. In other words, improve the quality of oil products and boost the emission upgrade for the two central enterprises. For giants, it is a "costly and time-consuming" thing.

SCR will be the national IV main route

Cai Dong talked about the SCR post-processing technology upgrading the IV emission standards, the industry insiders called "selective catalytic reduction technology route", simply put, is based on the country's three common rail engines, by adjusting the injection software and other measures to obtain Better fuel consumption. At the same time, an electronically controlled urea injection system is added to the exhaust system of the vehicle to convert the nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and water through a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) process. outer.

From a technical point of view, the technical path to meet China IV's upgraded emissions can also be tried with EGR+DPF (exhaust gas recirculation plus particulate trap) technology, but the former is more “comprehensive” than the former.

With the SCR scheme, no further strengthening of the engine is required. The sulfur content in the fuel has less impact on the system and can avoid the problem of high sulphur content in the fuel. It is more suitable for “China's national conditions”, but it requires the establishment of related urea solution supplement equipment at the gas station. Urea storage and conversion devices increase costs.

According to European and American countries' heavy truck emission upgrade experience, the SCR technology route dominates in Europe. European long-distance trucks usually use SCR technology, while short-distance transport or urban buses choose EGR+DPF technology.

Cai Dong said that through cooperation with the Man Group, Sinotruck has made great strides in upgrading its engine technology. Currently, it is ready for the upgrading of heavy truck IV, but from a nationwide perspective, it will take some time before the implementation of national IV emissions. It is expected to be realized in 2012 soon.
