The government recently released the long-awaited two environmental standards for the crude lead smelting industry, which will be implemented from February next year.
According to industry sources, the introduction of standards can prevent a large number of lead smelters from shutting down and restart the smelting capacity that has been shut down since August this year.
The standard specifies three levels of crude lead smelting clean production indicators, the lowest of which is the blast sintering machine sintering-blast furnace reduction smelting process and the closed blast furnace smelting (ISP) process.
These requirements are expected to be used to determine the criteria for shutting down and restarting the smelter.
The Chinese government's goal is to shut down 600,000 tons of obsolete lead capacity nationwide in the next few years and tighten the control of lead smelters after a series of lead poisoning incidents.
China is the world's largest lead producer and consumer.
Since August, due to environmental considerations, the government has shut down more than 180,000 tons of lead smelting design capacity in Shaanxi and Henan provinces, including Yuguang Gold and Lead, a smelting plant with an annual output of 50,000 tons.
The shutdown capacity is a smelting process and an ISP process. These capacity will be allowed to restart when the new standard is implemented in February next year.
