When repairing a diesel generator set, commonly used hand pliers include four kinds of pliers, wire cutters (also known as wire cutters and pliers), needle nose pliers, and pipe wrenches (also known as pipe wrenches), as shown in the following figure.
Slip-on pliers are suitable for general clamping work, and its opening can be adjusted in an appropriate amount. In addition to the general clamping work, the wire clamp can also cut off small diameter wires. Needle-nose pliers are suitable for holding delicate mold parts, twisting wire and use in narrower parts. Pipe wrenches are used to turn round parts that other wrenches and pliers cannot hold. This spanner wrench has teeth on both sides that bite the workpiece and does not slip when rotated, but it can roughen the surface of the workpiece. When using, pull the pipe in the same direction as the wrench opening, as shown in Figure (d). This allows the wrench to bite the tube tighter, where the active part of the wrench is subjected to a pulling force, so the pipe wrench is not easily damaged.
The use of hand pliers must be selected according to the different nature of the work, so that the characteristics of the pliers is in line with the working conditions, this will not only improve work efficiency, but also to ensure safety. Never use a pair of pliers to twist the nuts, as it is easy to abrade the teeth of the nuts or slip joints. When cutting wire with nippers, the grip of the hand should be gentle and quick, light and heavy, so as to keep the cutting edge from being damaged, and to pay attention to the diameter of the metal wire, if the diameter is larger, it can be used to point by point. Cut it, then break it with your hand. Don't cut it at one point. You should not use wire cutters to cut steel wire or hard alloy wires. Use a pliers to pay attention to the correct grip position, do not crush the palm of your hand or pinch your fingers, and avoid using a pliers handle to move the workpiece.
